Flamenco Festival and The City Council of Torrox Present a New Edition of the «In Progress» Artistic Residency Program
The «In Progress» program has consolidated as a space for experimentation and artistic dialogue, once again bringing together acclaimed artists and emerging talents
The town of Torrox, located in Málaga, is prepared to welcome the 2025 edition of In Progress, an innovative residency program for artistic creation developed by Flamenco Festival in collaboration with The City Council of Torrox. This year, renowned and emerging flamenco artists will explore new frontiers through research and experimentation. The selected participants include Lucía La Piñona, María Moreno, La Lupi, Sara Jiménez, Julio Ruiz, Iván Orellana with Alberto Sellés, Ana Almagro, and the collective comprising Florencia Oz, Paula Comitre, and Carmen Angulo.
In Progress is organized with the support of Spain’s Ministry of Culture and the Concienciarte Foundation. Its aim is to expand flamenco horizons by fostering dialogue between diverse disciplines and cultural traditions. Since its creation in 2022, this program has become a benchmark for flamenco creativity, placing Torrox and Flamenco Festival firmly on the international map.
In Progress is a pioneering flamenco initiative through which we offer personalized guidance to artists and support their creative processes. One of the primary objectives of this project is promoting art as a path toward individual evolution, collective well-being, and broader community engagement.
A Glocal Program
The 2025 edition maintains its «glocal» focus, connecting local roots with global perspectives and providing artists with an ideal environment for experimentation and artistic exchange. The selected projects are scheduled for previews throughout the year in Torrox, ahead of their official premieres on national and international stages.

Lucía La Piñona – «Lucía en Vivo»
Lucía La Piñona will inaugurate the residency cycle with “Lucía en Vivo”, a project that delves into the dancer’s musical and bodily memories. This work represents an exercise in personal and artistic exploration and will be previewed in Torrox before its official debut at the XXIX Festival de Jerez.
Ana Almagro – «Ana Almagro x ELAMOR»
Ana Almagro’s project blends flamenco, dance, and sound in a performance influenced by Martha Graham, combining constant footwork with the poetry of María Salgado and guitar by Raúl Cantizano. Its premiere is scheduled for the IX Bienal de Málaga.
Sara Jiménez – «Fragmentos de la noche»
In “Fragments of The Night”, Sara Jiménez will explore the intersection of mythology and flamenco, examining how ancient myths resonate today. Inspired by references such as Orpheus and the Trojan War, the piece moves through symbolic spaces that connect past and present.
Julio Ruiz – «La Familia»
«The Family» is an interdisciplinary project combining dance, writing, and performance, exploring the tensions inherent in collective creation. Julio Ruiz collaborates with playwright Ernesto Artillo for this project.
Iván Orellana & Alberto Sellés – «Deuteronomio 5:8-10»
This work-in-progress will address profound themes, exploring the intersections of flamenco and spirituality. Its premiere is planned for the prestigious Esch Festival in Luxembourg.
María Moreno – «Magnificat»
“Magnificat” is a journey through landscapes reflecting states of the soul and body, guided by María Moreno. The production features Raúl Cantizano as musical director, Rosa Romero as dramaturge, Rafael R. Villalobos in stage direction, and dramaturge Jaime Conde Salazar.
Florencia Oz, Paula Comitre & Carmen Angulo – «Reflexiones sobre las Parcas»
“Reflections on the Fates” investigates the mythological figures of the Fates, reflecting on life and death through dance and theater. It unites body, word, and music in a dialogue with time.
La Lupi – «Lo Inédito»
Closing the semester, La Lupi will present “The Unseen”, a production challenging the boundaries of the familiar. With dramaturgy by Alberto Velasco, the piece explores innovative forms of flamenco expression.
In Progress: A Platform for Flamenco Innovation
In Progress is now established as a leading space for the most innovative flamenco creation, advocating for experimentation, risk-taking, and cultural diversity. Its commitment to the flamenco of the future drives artistic expansion and international visibility for its creators.
More than just a residency program, In Progress provides a safe environment for artistic inquiry and exchange. With a “glocal” vision, it promotes creativity beyond major urban centers, collaborating with theaters in London, New York, and Miami.
The project views art as a tool for individual and collective transformation, facilitating encounters between artists from diverse disciplines and cultures. Additionally, it offers a natural workspace where creativity is enhanced through support from experts in energy work, emotional processing, and meditation.
