La Argentinita in New York, New York in la Argentinita
Join academic José Javier León for a talk dedicated to La Argentinita, in which he will explore her deep artistic relationship with New York City, where she and Federico García Lorca began their innovative project to revitalize Spanish folk songs.
After the Spanish Civil War, La Argentinita found her new home in New York and a way to develop artistically. Appearing in numerous films and performing in major theaters, she introduced audiences to a renewed and modern vision of Spanish dance and folklore. The talk, illustrated by artists featured in the festival, will revisit her role as a cultural bridge between Spain and the vibrant artistic world of the city.
Co-presented with the NYPL and the Consulate General of Spain in New York.
