Flamenco Festival USA 2025 Celebrates a First Week of Sold-Out Shows in Miami and New York
Flamenco Festival New York 2025 is off to a spectacular start, with an extraordinary first week of performances that captivated audiences and reaffirmed the global impact of flamenco. Sold-out shows by renowned artists Eva Yerbabuena, Manuel Liñán, and Kiki Morente & Carlos de Jacoba set the tone for a festival dedicated to celebrating both tradition and innovation in flamenco. The resounding success of these performances, held at the prestigious New York City Center and other iconic venues, has once again demonstrated the festival’s ability to bring together some of the greatest flamenco artists of our time.
This first week has been an overwhelming success, with standing ovations at every show and an audience deeply moved by the artistry of these incredible performers. Flamenco Festival New York kicked off on March 5 at CUNY Graduate Center with an emotive opening ceremony; Antoni Piza (Director of the Center for Iberian Music), Marifrán Carazo (Mayor of Granada, Spain), Luis García Montero (Director of Instituto Cervantes), and Miguel Marín (Director of Flamenco Festival) had the honor of opening this year’s edition, setting the stage for an incredible journey celebrating flamenco, the city of Granada and the legacy of the poet Federico García Lorca.
The presentation was followed by an inspiring panel discussion on Lorca, flamenco, and the Harlem Renaissance at CUNY Graduate Center’s Skylight Room, featuring distinguished experts Sybil Cooksey, José Javier León, Noël Valis, and K. Meira Goldberg.
Artists Kiki Morente, Carlos de Jacoba, and Juan Carmona presented «Lorquianos», an evocative tribute to Federico García Lorca that enthralled a packed audience at CUNY Graduate Center in New York. Manuel Liñán’s «Muerta de Amor» followed, delivering an emotionally charged and daring spectacle that explored desire, fantasy, and the transformative power of flamenco. Meanwhile, Eva Yerbabuena’s «Yerbagüena (Oscuro Brillante),» nominated for an Olivier Award, mesmerized audiences with its seamless fusion of tradition and contemporary expression.
Beyond the stage, Flamenco Festival New York 2025 also reinforced its commitment to education and cultural outreach. On March 5, 2,000 New York City students experienced the magic of flamenco through a special matinee performance of «Alter Ego» by Alfonso Losa and Patricia Guerrero. Organized as part of the NYPD Flamenco for Young Audiences initiative, this event aimed to introduce young generations to the rich history and culture of flamenco, fostering a deeper appreciation for this universal art form.

The festival promises to maintain its momentum, offering audiences a rich and diverse lineup that showcases the breadth and depth of flamenco, from traditional dance and singing to innovative fusions with jazz, theatrical adaptations, and even contemporary circus arts.
This week, the festival presents a remarkable variety of performances. The acclaimed Marina Heredia brings «De lo Jondo a Lorca» to the Merkin Concert Hall in New York, an emotionally charged tribute to Federico García Lorca, blending the passion of flamenco with the poet’s evocative words. Meanwhile, Sara Jiménez presents «Variación a Tempo» at Joe’s Pub in New York before heading to the Instituto Cervantes in Chicago, where audiences will experience her bold reimagining of flamenco through movement, rhythm, and contemporary expression.
Flamenco Festival USA also continues exploring new artistic frontiers. Carlos de Jacoba & Zaccai Curtis bring flamenco and jazz together at Jazz at Lincoln Center, creating an unforgettable night of musical improvisation and deep-rooted tradition. On another note, Zen del Sur’s «Órbita» at NYU King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center offers a breathtaking fusion of flamenco and circus arts, where acrobatics, boleadoras, and live music come together in a dreamlike spectacle.
The festival’s commitment to bringing flamenco to new audiences also extends to theater, with the Repertorio Español’s adaptation of «La Casa de Bernarda Alba», offering a powerful take on Lorca’s timeless masterpiece.
